Sunroof begining to strip. Please help. 200 1991

Hi Peoples. I'm having a little difficulty with my sunroof. It just started stripping between the gear and cables. It happens when the roof is open about an inch or two.

I took the front cable cover off to look and those two little clips that cover the gear when flying, the thin dark metal one that goes on first is asymetrical and I don't know if it goes inside or outside the cable carrier or facing front or back.

Funny thing is, the cable and gear both look fine.

I don't know if replacing the cable will help, or is there another easier and hopefully cheaper fix? Also, what do I lube the cables with? Thanks for any and all help.

OK, I got it working pretty good. I put the small clip inside the track and the large outside, sprayes some wd40 in there, and it's smooth as silk now.. doesn't jump anymore either.
