hood interchange 200 1987

Hit a deer with my 87 245, need a new hood. Found a 1984 hood, will it fit? I called a junk yard, they said I needed a 1986 to 1993 hood. Whats the difference? Will the 84 fit and just look a little different? Thanks for any advice you can give.

Re: hood interchange 200 1987

Short answer, no it won't fit. Long answer, it can fit.

Cutting the cowl vent section in front of the windshield and welding in the older style piece will allow the older hood to fit (or an even older flat hood). Of course the usual parts need to be changed, such as fenders, grille, headlights, turn signals, and radiator support.

The junkyard is right, '86-'93 is a match.

"Found a 1984 hood, will it fit?"

Not really. The earliest hood that will drop directly onto your car is an '86.

In '86 Volvo went from the four rectangular headlights to the two big, ugly, crummy plastic headlights. The shape of the nose and grill changed, and the shape of the hood changed with it.

But I don't know how much of a mismatch a pre-'86 hood would be.
