Occasional starting hiccup-Causes? 200 1991

Our 91 245 repeatedly experiences a starting hiccup, idles well after start, have recently replaced the AMM, and EGR vacuum regulator. The best way to describe the condition is as false pre-start, before the engine is fully ready to sustain itself. I would blame the timing but since

it is not offending every time, I'm leaning more toward the abstract. Any shared experience or advice is appreciated.

My '84 GL w/EFI was behaving like you describe, the problem on my car turned out to be a dirty throttle body. The idle air bypass motor (right name?) was having to open more than normal to allow enough air into the engine for a good idle. Sometimes I would start the car and it would run fine, other times it would catch and then die. The mechanic who cleaned it out had a little tube with a 180 joint on it, so most of the oily crud would be blasted out of the TB, instead of down the intake. I was amazed at the amount of gunk that came out! After this was done, the car started and ran perfectly.

Cleaning the throttle body hadn't occured to me, I will definately give it

      a try. Thanks.

Yeah, after you stopped using your name on the board, I figured you wouldn't be around much longer.

Give you $500. Who would want a piece that doesn't run right...

So I guess LA is your winter retreat, I'd rather be nameless than homeless,

I replaced the vacuum regulator on this same car and so far so good, if it continues this way I'll be elated.
