Rear Seat Release Is Broken in '88 Wagon 200 88

I have a problem in that the release for the wagon rear seat back is broken. The plastic housing containing the release lever has been broken and the small cables going to either side will not release the seat latches. Is there an alternate way to lower the seat and to repair the release?

I still havn't fixed my handel yet, but you can let the seat down by taking a flat screwdriver (or your finger if you are carefull not to pinch it) and going to the catch on each side and pushing down on the little piece that comes up around the bar while pulling forward on the seat back.

It's kind of a 6 handed song and dance but after a few tries you'll get the hang of it.
