I'm about to buy my neighbor's 1986 245. 4spd/ovd transmission. Here's the deal. I had another 1986 244, always started perfectly. This 245 needs to be revved up when started to keep it from stalling. It doesn't have the problem as badly when the engine is warm. My neighbor says it's been that way for years. Is this something to be concerned about? He fixes everything on the car, so I was surprised he passed this one off. Thanks in advance.

Throttle position switch may be out of adjustment (or bad) If it's not clicking in when your foots off of it while starting it seems that the computer would not know to idle it in open loop mode untol the O2 sensor warms up.

Check the temp sensor. Its function is to give a rich mixture during cold starts.

If I were considering this car, and all else is good, I certainly wouldnt turn the car down for the stated problem. Temp sensor, if thats what it is, is about $35.00 Maybe another 50.00 for labor, if you have someone else install.

You could ham it up and make this a good reason for getting a price reduction.

Idle control motor is a possibility, read post a little below your post titled RE: Idle Control/Stalling.

Car has no problems at idle, just when I start it up. My symptoms are very different than the below message.
