I might have killed the Idle Air Control!!!! 200 91

Hi All,

I had a bad AMM that I just replaced but before I installed the new AMM I cleaned the IAC and managed to create a good scratch on the little door on the IAC. So now it idles fine for a few seconds then stalls! Did I kill the IAC? Please help!!!!

If you disconnect the AMM does that bypass the IAC? The car doesn't stall but runs rather rough with the AMM disconnected. Is it possible that the new AMM(used) is toast as well?

Turns out the new AMM is bad!

I used the AMM from my 765Ti and bingo the thing purred like a kitten!

Re: I might have killed the Idle Air Control!!!! 200 91

You may want to check the airbox thermostat. Your car has a silvery flex hose from the exhaust manifold, and this brings hot air to the airbox that contains your air filter. There is a t-stat in here so that when it's real cold out, warm air from around the ex-man enters your engine so it heats up faster. (This is the preheater system, and the hose is the preheater hose)

When the tstat fails, it fails in such a way that the preheated air is always entering your engine. This will toast any AMM before long. This is a common reason for failure of an AMM. The tstat is cheap and easy to replace. A good thing to check periodically.

The reason why your car ran bad but didn't stall when you disconnected your AMM is that when you do this, the car runs in "limp home mode" where it reads the throttle position and uses pre-set values to regulate the fuel. When your bad AMM is plugged in, it's not using limp home mode. Make sure your ignition is off when you plug/unplug your AMM.
