89 780 Anti Lock Light and Rattling Noise? 700 1989

The car is a 89 780. The Anti Lock light is on and I have no clue why it would just got on? Air in the system? Main ABS Unit?

The other problem is that the car makes a griding type noise at times during driving. The engine speed does not matter nor does the cars speed. It sounds like it is coming from the area right behind where the radio is. It is not the brakes or any heatsheild. What has been done that could have made the problem. New Rear Main Seal, Driveshaft bearing and bushing, trans support, A used transmission was put in. I would say it is the trans but thefact is that the noise is not always there. If it alwasy made the noise then I would say that was the prob. Let me know if you have any insight or need more info

    In addition to Leon's tips, you might try disconnecting and reconnecting the abs sensor cables at their connectors in the engine compartment...check them for oxidation or moisture, put them back together with a LITTLE dab of OxGard or other antioxidant but not dielectric paste.

    Also clean the sensors at the inside of the hub...you may have to remove the disc of the disc brake (which is a hassle, have to unbolt the caliper, blah blah blah) but I usually just blast away with a compressed air gun...close your eyes and hold your breath. Helps to clean the are with CRC BrakeKleen or other wet methods first, kiss kiss to OSHA.

    Since you had a new trans put in, I'd look at the torque converter mounting bolts through the inspection ports on the bellhousing...perhaps one or more is coming loose. You might also thoroughly flush (or have it flushed professionally although that can cost $150-200) the trans and have the trans filter replaced. Check the fluid for signs of overheating fluid/slipping OD?

    For your ABS light, check your grounds, alternator brushes/regulator and battery cables. If that doesn't fix it, you may have to change the instrument panel printed circuit board.

    Does the girding sound almost like a growl and will it happen when the car is in park or neutral? My 1990 760 has made a growling noise and has been doing it for about 5 years. I have no idea on how to fix it but I don't think it is anything to worry about. The only time I hear mine is in park or neutral. If you are hearing your noise driving around, I am not sure what it is. Sorry.
