Rear ABS sensor????? 700 1988

Hey Bricksters,

Got a question for ya. Its on my last nerve that my ABS light is lit. Is there a ABS sensor in the rear somewhere? I have cleaned the 2 up front and sprayed them well with contact cleaner. What sucks is the ABS on my car (88) doesnt have the diagonstic computer/codes. It seems to light up when braking and hitting a bump then it just stays lit.. The wires that lead to the sensors up front look in good condition... Anyone??

THanks in advance.

Paul

Re: Rear ABS sensor????? 700 1988

The rear sensor is the speedometer signal which is shared with the ABS system. A point of interest is that ABS equipped cars use a different slotted wheel (more slots if memory serves me right) than non ABS cars. The rear ends and speedometer will not exchange properly between ABS and non ABS cars.

When your problem occurs does the speedometer do anything strange? That would indicate a problem with the wirin or transmitter adjustement at the rear end.

    Bingo!

There's a rear sensor (single wire) that goes to the differential. That thing acts up over bumps first, and eventually breaks or becomes totally ineffective. Play around with that thing and see if it might be your problem. It often is.

Again, only 1 rear sensor. the "over bumps" part really is a good clue.
