Power window failure 200 83

Sudden loss of power windows. Luckily stuck closed. The fuse checks out OK - next things I know to check are the switch on the drivers door and the relay.

Can anyone tell me where the relay is located and how to identify it? And the best way to trouble-shoot it?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Power window failure 200 83

Well I have an 82 240 and the wiring diagram for that model indicates the relay is located behind the center console right top. There should be a clip attached to the relay. Look for two reds going to post 87, black to post 85, brown to post 30, and blue-yellow to post 86.

I would check the switches first as these are the most likely cause. The switches get junk in them and quit working. There have been many postings on taking the switches apart cleaning them and putting them back together and everthing works fine. Sometimes just the pins get dirty and need cleaning.

      Thanks Jerry:

It turned out to be the relay. I was pretty sure it wasn't the switch as I keep the car fairly clean. The dealer wanted $53 for the relay but didn't have one in stock even. So a quick trip to the local pick-and-pull got me two for $10. So now I have a working spare also.

Not knowing which relay it was or where it was located would not have made this possible; so thanks.
