Turbo Light (on dash) 200 1983

I have an 83 244 Turbo with the intercooler kit. I have the boost set at about 5psi and I want to increase it because I have an intercooler (to around 9psi). When I do increase the boost the turbo light comes on. Is the turbo light simply activated by a pressure level or something more complicated? Is there a part to the intercooler upgrade which increases the psi at which the light comes on or can it be adjusted somehow?

Thanks in advance,

Re: Turbo Light (on dash) 200 1983

hey tom, did you put the i.c. in your car or did it come with it, because on the non intercooled cars there is a relay(i think, either that or some other easily changable device) under the drivers side dash, up by the pedals. that monitors the boost level, on non intercooled cars it is set to around 9 psi, which could explain your problem because when it hits this amount it sets of the dash turbo light, and cuts the fuel. in the intercooled there is a different relay and that cuts it out at 15 psi, i dont think you can adjust it you just need to get a different relay, check out turbobricks.org they can help you too if this doesent answer you questions,
