Strange Starting Problem 700 1988

When starting our 1988 760 after it's been sitting for a few hours, it ocassionally shuts off after putting the gear selector into drive or reverse. Sometimes it sputters for a few seconds, almost dying, then comes back on and is fine. Other times it does the same but dies. It starts right back up and works fine. Just a strange annoyance. Thanks!

Re: Strange Starting Problem 700 1988

    Greg,

You would probably want to start by cleaning out the idle control motor and the throttle body. There is also an emission control component known as a flame trap (for crankcase ventilation), but if your 760 is a turbo, I don't think it's got one.

The 700/900 FAQ's on this site should explain the above mentioned procedures very well, otherwise repost for info. There are some pretty sharp folks that frequent this site.
