new shift knob 200 1982

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a new shift knob for a 1982 volvo 240 with a manual 4 speed plus overdrive switch?

IPD and other DIY volvo parts places can get a new knob. I bought one

from IPD. I think it was $25. Takes about 15 minutes to replace.

One of the nice things you can do to make your interior a more pleasant

    place.

I'm sure if you move the O/D switch or come up with you own push button

to take the place of the stock one. You can shop for a knob that you'll

like. I saw an Audi in European car that had buttons on a aftermarket

shift knob that looked pretty good. CFI motorsports has a large selection

        of shift knobs.

I just finished installing a microswitch that is activated by pulling the reverse collar. This will allow you to use any knob you want, also it is un-noticible.

The microSWITCH, just to clear that up, can be found at any electronics store. There is a local "Active Surplus" here where these thing come really cheap so I bought a few, and used the one that was best suited to my needs.

I fasioned a braket that screwed in to the chrome shifter, righ near the bottom. The microswitch is also attached to this braket and is positioned so the detent collar hits the switch on it's way up. The detent collar is the one that actually stops you from accidentally engaging reverse, right at the bottom if the shifter. You will need to remove the shifter to do this.

I just finished the installation today and it works great. Totally hidded!

I took some pictures of it which I will post when they are developed. I'll do a little write up on it.
