Propshaft mounting rubbers 120-130 1964

Please help me out. I need to fit the propshaft centre mount rubbers, the cartwheel shaped ones, and cannot for the life of me get them in. I have already detroyed one. Please let me know the technique or is special tools are needed.

Thanks.....Karl

Re: Propshaft mounting rubbers 120-130 1964

These are the kind of soft rubber bushings - two of them that

fit into a hole in a plate and 3/8" pins from the center bearing

mount go through them, right?

You have to remove the drive shaft. A little rubber lube, soap or

grease makes it pretty easy. I pushed mine in with my bare hands,

maybe with a little help from a screwdriver. Once you get them

in the pins on the center mount go in easy. Be SURE that you

put your driveshaft back together with the yokes on both sides

of the slipjoint exactly lined up or you will have pulsation

from changes in angular velocity of the shaft that are

normally cancelled out when it is properly assembled.

Re: Propshaft mounting rubbers 120-130 1964

Boy, it's been ages-

But I remember that putting a really long hose clamp all the way around it, and compressing until the sleeves aligned with the holes in the flanges was one trick... (note to self- am I thinking of the 122 or the 2002 here?)

Hope this helps,

Toby B

Re: Propshaft mounting rubbers 120-130 1964

Can be done without removing driveshaft.

Wind a fine appx 3-ft. wire or heavy fishing or thin weedwhacker cord around the circumference groove (slot) in grommet about 1.5 turns.

Pass the long ends of cord through the seat (hole) in the bearing carrier (carrier bracket pin & grommet already mated).

Pull both ends of cord, 1 in each hand, so grommet slides against hole.

Hold one cord end tight with one hand....AS

other hand, CLOSE to hole & grommet, pulls steadily so grommet lip flexes into hole...

Steadily guide rubber lip around/THROUGH hole on your side, all the way around until that whole lip is on your side.

Good idea to lubricate that rubber with soap.
