Chrome Question. ALL

Wasn't really sure where to post this.

Any advice/product names for polishing 30 year old oxidized chrome window trim? It's all there, but it's all dull. Thanks.

Re: Chrome Question. ALL

Cassidy: Any chrome polish or metal polish should do it. My favorites have been Simichrome, or in a pinch, duPont makes a polish that comes in a green can. However, I can't stress enough that you need to make sure that what you're dealing with is actually chrome! There were a lot of stainless steel parts on the cars, especially around the windows, where the elements would beat to death any chrome plating. If the trim is stainless, then you'll be only marginally successful polishing it by hand. You'd be best off to remove as much as you can and hit it with a buffing wheel (on a bench grinder) upon which there is a little bit of jewelers rouge to bring up the shine. It's tedious work, but well worth the effort. Good luck.

Re: Chrome Question. ALL

And Stainless it is.....thanks for the correction. Found a product that makes quick work of oxidation and spotting : NEVR-DULL. A wadding polish like the toxic wadding polishes of old. Great stuff. $3.50 a can at NAPA.
