Repair Dampers/Door 700 1990

The rear damper for the wagon have lost their steam and no longer support the hatch, is there anything anyone knows that I can do before I fork out the cash to the dealer for new ones?

Call Swedish Engineering at (800) 928-6586. They have the real stuff at significantly less $'s than the dealer. I think I paid around $22 for a pair of struts for a 744 trunk. Expect to pay a little more on a wagon hatch, I suppose.

No, no, not the dealer 700 1990

Mark, I can suggest 2 things to do before going to a Volvo dealer.

1. Do not go to the dealer.

2. Go to a parts store and purchase replacements.

They cannot be repaired and are easy to replace.

Re: Repair Dampers/Door 700 1990

Mark: 2 things; one, buy a hood prop-up stick from IPD, but that's a pain in the rear; or two, go to an auto parts store, they have a book which tells which supports fit your car. I got a pair for my '86 GLE wagon a few years ago, for $50 or less, don't remember. Removal/replacement is a piece o' cake: at each end, look closely and you will see a "circlip" about a 1/2" wide, which just pop off with a small screwdriver blade, then the plungers slide off, and you slide on the new ones, replace the circlips, and no more head bumps, etc. One of the easiest/cheapest things you'll ever do, about one minute per side.--PD.
