Idiots guide to Turbo/Fuel eco. guages! 200 1988

Im the weird kid who collects Volvos! :D

i have A) 1988 Volvo 240 DL

and B) Fuel economy guage

im not familiar with volvo engines or anything to do with this procedure!

i know i need to run a vacuum line from the Manifold to the guage inside

but i dont know what a port on the intake is...

OR how to get it thru the firewall into the dash...

if anyone knows where i can find a detailed description of this procedure or anything which could help me along the way, it would be greatly appreciated! THANKS! :D

Me, I'll give you an answer... 200 1988

1- I have exactly the same car than you (but it's a '89)

2- I did the economy guage installation last week

3- I exactly did the same thing (on the hood) when I bought my car. (excuse me, Don)

You can't take vacuum from the climate control because the vacuum doesn't change on it (check valve + vacuum tank).

But the intake manifold has several bolts on it near the vacuum pick up of the climate control. Tou can remove one and replace it by a nipple (I bought mine at my volvo dealer but I think it's just a standard 1/8'' pipe thread fitting) after, you just need to find a place for your guage and a hole to pass the vac. tube thru the firewall. Me, I used the one near the glovebox, where the air conditionner pipes are supposed to be. You just have to drill a hole on the rubber cap.

You could add the vacuum line you need by putting a "T" connector in one of the existing vacuum lines on the intake.

The 240 firewall doesn't offer many openings. I have run wires through the firewall on the passenger's side. Remove the glove box and look for a large rubber grommet on the firewall(it already has a good sized item running through it, don't remember what it is). You may have to cut a hole to fish the hose through it.... OR

You already have vacuum behind the dash. It controls the climate control dampers that divert air flow for the various settings. You should have access to them after removing the glovebox. Find one that has vacuum and "T" into that.

Hey, who's the fool standing on the hood of your nice car? Man, if I caught that jabroni on my car, like he's standing on your car, I'd break something.

"BREAKS ARE FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO STOP!"

Don't give the idiots any breaks when you step on your brakes.

Now Don, you're out of step with today's teaching methods. The Whole Language Method says you don't need to get anything right, as long as you feel good about yourself. I wonder if that would work for math as well. Bridges might collapse, relays would fail, wiring harnesses would crumble, well you get the idea.

"...you're out of step with today's teaching methods...as long as you feel good about yourself..."

Maybe, but if some jamoke jumps on my hood, I'll break his head. Let's see who feels good about what then.

Oh, wait, I know. We'll send him over to walk on your hood for awhile, then we'll see how good you feel. "Don't worry, be happy." Geez, it could be a song.

"...relays would fail, wiring harnesses would crumble, well you get the idea..."

Yep. Their works sucks but they're happy.
