Glove Compartment Falling Off 200 83

Besides taking it apart and using a super strong adhesive, is there another way I can jerry-rig my glove compartment and attach it back to its base? It's just hanging there from the lock cylinder.

    Hi Ricky,

Velcro tape worked well for me. Stuck mine together 1 year ago and has been fine since. If you fail to align it properly the first time just peel it apart and stick it again. Wish I could use it on rocker panels. Geez, I wonder..............?

    Dan

I'm going to use construction adheasive (Liquid Nails) to repair mine.

You mean the outer cover of the glove box door has separated from the inner part?

When mine did that, I liberally spread RTV between them and pushed it into place. Then I wedged a board between the seat (back) and glove box. The next morning it was solidly adhered, and stayed that way 'til the car died of rust 10 years later.

Don Foster, what is RTV? BTW, I like the idea of using your method because you won't have to take the glove compartment off.

        "what is RTV?"

Sometimes also known as "silicone rubber," it comes in a buncha colors 'n flavors at the hardware store. It's most often made by GE (who invented it, I think, many moons ago).

"RTV" stands for "room temperature vulcanizing." This stuff is a gooey glop, kinda like toothpaste, but cures to a rubber-like consistency rather than hard, like epoxy. It usually takes from two hours to twenty-four hours to fully set up. It smells like vinegar when just from the tube (acetic acid).

Take off the lock cylinder, get yourself some 3-M weatherstrip adhesive,(yellow) coat the door and the cover where they mate with a good bead and let it dry, then carefully reassemble. Make sure it's lined up first cause when the glued surfaces touch, it sticks immediately. Put the lock back in. 15 minute job. (or you can put it together wet and clamp it)

      I second that... 200 83

I've used 3M 'mustard' on two 240 gloveboxes, and they've never come loose. I use small C-clamps (with some wood (paint mixing sticks) to protect the glovebox plastic) to hold the glued assembly tightly in place while it dries. It's good as new.
