Replacement Radio??? 700 89

OK, I'm tired of replacing the raidio of 700 series with used ones that only last a year...I want a new Panasonic,Sony, etc. which ones do you reccommend? No need for CD player. Thanks, G.Lo.

I agree with buying your installation kit(wiring and faceplate) from Crutchfield, but you can save a lot of money by buying your head unit elsewhere. I bought a Kenwood with rotating faceplate for 254 that Crutchfield wanted 340 for. Huge price difference.

Re: Replacement Radio??? 700 89

When the radio in my '85 740 quit a few years ago I got a fully waranteed, factory refurbised service/exchange unit from Volvo. I worked perfect for the remaining 3 years I had the car. As I remember it was about $100 and of course it was "plug and play" in less than 5 minutes.

I highly recommend Crutchfield. Check out their site. They sell at suggested retail as far as I can tell, but the kits they send with the stereo will save you a lot of time and headaches. I think this makes it worth the extra $20-30 you will spend. The kits allow you to avoid splicing any of the original wires/connections.

Get one tah will fit, with an adapter, and change the speakers as well. The newer radios are much lighter and have more features than the original. Get one with either provosions for a CD player hookup[ or a CD player. Use the CD/RW in your pc to create your own CD's, for your listening enjoyment.

Re: Replacement Radio??? 700 89

Bought a pioneer DH2100 with 45w per channel, built in eq and CD player for $160 thru crutchfield.com for my '92 740. Great unit but the beauty of the deal was that crutchfield provided the right wiring harness and new flace plate for the stereo and instructions for free. There was no wire cutting just plug and play. Hope this helps.
