Bugs on radiator (best way to clean)? Also license plate question 900 93

I have two real simple ones? What is the best and safest way to unclog the bugs from radiator fins? And I want to mount a license plate to the front of this 940's bumper but the existing holes in the bumper are rather small and are not far eneough apart? before? Are the existing holes intended for aintended for a frame in which the palte is mounted?

Thanks to all,

Alan.

Re: Bugs on radiator (best way to clean)? Also license plate question 900 93

My wife's Jetta (1990) didn't come with a mounting bracket for the front plate. I bought a couple of large (approx. 1/4 inch dia.) self-drilling/tapping hex head screws, and attached the license plate directly to the plastic bumper shell using a nut driver. Threads in the plastic is probably not a great idea if plates are changed regularly, but since we'll be keeping the car until it becomes salvage, there's no issue.

Re: Bugs on radiator (best way to clean)? Also license plate question 900 93

The best way is to remove the radiator, spray soap on the front, and gently spray through the back at a pressure sufficient to remove the bugs but not so much as to bend the fins. As an alternative, use a self-serve car wash degreaser setting with the radiator in the car, but be careful about the fins.

Re: Bugs on radiator (best way to clean)? Also license plate question 900 93

Steve gives a great answer for the radiator. The other method I have used (just this week) is to use compressed air and blow it out from behind. I got a lot of stuff out of the radiator that way.

To mount a license plate on the front there is a bracket that is screwed into the holes on the front bumper. You can probably find one at a junkyard. I don't know if there are any "universal" mounting brackets that you can get at your local auto parts store.
