intake manifold gasket 700 1985

How can I tell if the manifold gasket is defective?

    If the gasket IS bad, replace it with a VOLVO gasket. They are much softer than aftermarket and I imagine they seals much better.

    Easy test is to start the engine and spray around the manifold gasket with carb cleaner. If engine idle changes at a particular area, you've found your leak.

    You can look around the edges of the intake manifold to look for breaks.

    If your idle increases and decreases, surges, you have a vacuum leak.

    Remove the manifold and check it.

    Retorque the manifold to about 20 - 30 ft-lbs.

    Easy.
