Project car? 200 86

My wife's 86 GL is about at the end of it's life in our family. It has enough body work to be done from recent hit and runs, etc, that for us fixing it is not a reasonable option. Mechanically, it work prettty well and we have decent records on it. Probably 168K, but I'd have to look. Any guess on what it might go for as project/parts car? Incidently, I have never seen another in this color combo..the metallic gold (they call it beige) and black leather interior. Thanks.http://brickboard.com/RWD/?#0

Well, I must say, these estimates a higher than what I would consider, given the body damage. None of it is structural, but it needs a replacement back bumper, the front end hood and lights need work and one door panel is crunched.

I would agree that these estimates are high. That is a good bit of damage for a car which could almost be considered totaled if you look at the what it would cost to fix. Especially if all that plastic is broken up front. It does have "low" mileage but that only means something to a person who knows volvos. Any signs of rust underneath? Tires and shocks good? These things if good could help.

The car should have plenty of life left...for someone. I have 341k on my car and have just really started to sink some cash into it. I am trying to determine if I should buy something newer. I'd like a 93 240 but I don't see them for sale too often (at reasonable prices)My guess is that you could probably get $1,000. to $1,200 pretty easily. It would probably make a good 1st car for a high-school or college kid...Pretty safe I might add as well.

    God luck,

    Jack W.

    Hi there,

I recentlty purchased a '79 242 DL straight body and a clean running but worn out motor for $600. The problem with Volvos is most people are scared away from buying them used due to the fact that most Volvos rack up massive milage. 165 K miles on a Volvo is like 50 K on a Ford, Chevy or Chrysler. Used Volvos are a buyer's dream, not a seller. In my opinion $1,000 would be reasonable.

    Jeff
