Can Lube Sedan Rear Seat Belts?

Both rear seat belts on my 1990 sedan do not retract readily, which is a problem for me with my kids in the back. I am figuring the springs are getting tired. I have removed and cleaned the belts, and will wax the guide loops as legitimate maintenance. But is there some legitimate way to lube the mechanism itself to increase retraction? Thanks....

I recall on my old 140, the mechanisms had the words "Do Not Lubricate" on them. I would assume that rule still applies.

I have taken these part and , no, I would not lube them.

Typically the problem is that the belts become a bit dirty, stiff, or word with use. They don't pass through the metal guide loop as easily and this resists the retractor.

Somone said they got good results be washeing them in soapy, warm water.

      Evidelty this relaxes the fabric.
