95 960 rough idle, diagnostic code 233 900 1995

Woke up this morning to a very rough idle with my 1995 960. The idle surges from 200 to 1200 Rpm's and will die at a stoplight. Seems to run fine at highway speeds. I ran a diagnostic check and got the code 233 from the Fuel system (A2) connector. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

change the sparkplugs, they get messy when the engine sucks oil if the breather valve is plugged or the control vacumm hose is broken, check for oil around the throtole valve.

Turns out to be a bad "Air Mass Meter". Dealer has ordered a replacement. Should be here on thursday. Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

A2 - 233 = "Long Term Idle Air Trim"

Conditions for DTC =

"If idle air trim is allowed to raise or lower mass air flow through valve too much to maintain even idle, code 233 is set"

Source of Fault =

-Blocked Air Filter or Air Intake

-Contact Resisitance in Connectors

-Air Leakage

-Incorrectly adjusted Throttle

-Defective IAC Valve.

Ok, the Straight Dope.....

More than likely, it is going to be one of the first three sources, although it is not uncommon for the IAC to take a big vacation. But first, look for a cracked air intake hose.

To check the IAC, run an ohm meter to it at pins 1 and 3. At 20 degrees cent, the resistance should be approx. 26 ohms.

If this checks out... de-ox, or equivalent, the contacts under the IAC.
