heating and air conditioning 700 86

With A/C on, I cannot get heater valve to close with vacuum. That is until I turn off the engine. Then the vacuum connection closes the heater valve completely for a few minutes. After these few minutes, vacuum is lost and the valve opens again. Please, can anybody tell me what is going on. I have read several times the heating and air conditioning section of FAQ for 700 and 900 cars, but I do not have a handle on the problem. Thank you.

Re: heating and air conditioning 700 86

Had same problem, but on a '88 240. It was a defective vaccuum chech valve that connects to the intake manifold. Its black on one side and white on the other side, easy and inexpensive to replace. Hope this helps

Re: heating and air conditioning 700 86

Had similar problems with this valve on my 88 740. Vacume line was creased and partially restricted down near the gas pedal causing incorrect operation of the valve.
