speedo broken - how fast am I going? 200 1983

Could someone take note of their speeds at a few different rpms to get me through until I replace my speedo. Specifically how fast is 2000,2500,3000 rpms in 3rd & 4th gear? I have an M46 with the tallest rear end ratio 3.31:1. Or alternatively can I use the manual's speed at 1000 rpms and multiply by the factor rpm/1000? Thanks a bunch.

Hehe, mine is broken as well. However I have a M41 in an '86. Luckily I've been able to get a speed reading from those portable speed traps at what I consider 'critical' speeds.

    2nd gear, 2500 rpm - 25 mph

    4th gear, 2500 rpm - 55 mph

That covers probably 90% of my driving to/from work, so I'm happy. Someday I'll get off my arse and pick up a new speedo and/or get mine fixed.

Thanks, funny I assumed all along (somebody said Canadian b21a, M46 combinations always came with 3.31:1) I had the highest rear end ratio. Well I crawled under the car at lunch and scraped the gunk off the sticker and it ends up I have a 3.54:1. Learn something every day.

Yes, as far as i know you can use the manual's #'s.

So, if 5th is 25 mph at 1000rpm, then it is 50 at 2,000 rpm and so on.
