Roof Lining 700 1987

How hard is it to replace the roof lining in a 740 sedan.

I have been told you need to take out the back window to do it!!

Is this true?

Is it better to have a professional replace it or has someone out there done it themselves without too many swear words entering the equasion?

Re: Roof Lining 700 1987

I did my headliner on a wagon recently.

Don't know about removing the rear window on a sedan. But's fairly easy to remove the headliner. Don't worry of you break it, fiber glass will patch it up. If you do it yourself, leave 4-3in overhang around the sunroof. Let me if you need directions on removing the headliner.

The board will barely fit out of the RH front door. You have to recline the front seats all the way back. I did mine myself and it took about three days. My mother-in-law just had her's done by a guy that comes out to the house. It took him about 1 hour. He charges about $250 for a sedan. Looks great. WELL WORTH IT! It's a PITA job (dealing with sunroof, etc.)

Bruce,

I had mine professionally done about 5 years ago and it still looks like new. It seems it was under $200.00.

Re: Roof Lining 700 1987

i just had mine done in my sunroofed wagon and it was ~500. called around and it was 375+ for wagons and 50 less for sedans. the guy i used does it at his home for the local indy and volvo dealers and was very through. he cleaned all the drains and lubed and adjusted the sunroof. it looks new and fabric is available in alot of colors. he also recovers or sews seats and does saabs as well. if anyone in the bay area is looking for this he is in oakland. email him, bill, at: wgdash@yahoo.com highly recommended!!

Re: Roof Lining 700 1987

I removed the headliner from my car to gain access to the jammed sunroof. I didnt think about removing the windows, so I attempted to just pull it out the door and found out the hard way that there is no way to take it out without breaking it. I would probably trust the job to a pro if you have the money for it, otherwise you'll end up with a cracked headliner being held on by staples like a certain idiot....

Fiberglass repair! Works great for broken headliners, no need for staples. Got my kit from walmart and fixed my three breaks on my headliner to like new.
