'87 740 GLE p/steering leaks, noise at left front end 700 1987

Hi everyone, please help if you can...my brick is going to the shop next week, but tell me what's going on here...the steering leaks, and there is an audible clunk on the left front-end when going over a bump--even slowly, and my baby is shuddering when slowing to a stop on highway...what do I tell 'em to look at for me? Oh, yea..another thing, occasionally, reverse doesn't engage right away and whines loudly...other than that, she's a gem ;-) I AM using a Volvo Shop, BTW. How much do think it will cost me?? Thanks

The trany thing: not sure, but may well need the trany flushed. this may take care of it, at least worth a try.

    Good luck,

If the rack is leaking and clunking, you may have a boot that split and let dirt etc in. This could have caused your rack to die and leak. The clunking could be a number of things up front associated with the steering including inner, outer tie rod ends, strut rod bushings, ball joint or even a loose rack.

How much? Depends on what you need, and who does it. Not good at guessing these things as I usually do them myself, so am not into labor charges.

Dick, thanks for your reply! I have done a little researching at Alldatadiy, and have come to the same conclusions... and some repair costs(yikes)..but, what about the reverse problem--any clue there?-a bad gear, maybe?
