Oil Drain Plug 200 1983

Hi all!

I got an oil change today and realized that the tech unscrewed the nut that's on the red, rounded thing that's located in front of the tranny. I was almost mortified because I thought that was the OD and that he had drained my tranny fluid. But, of course, he knew what he was doing, but I still had to ask. He told me that's where the oil drain plug is at, on that red thingy. Just to make sure--is he right? Thanks.

/// What you should worry about is that they strip it putting it back, leave it loose, leave the oil filter loose, put the wrong fluid in on the fill. Always drive watching the gauges after anyone services your car. It is cheaper to find the problem rather than try to sue and prove it was their fault. Check some of the web pages on these type complaints. Pennzoil seems to be the worst. Quaker State/Pennzoil is the same company.

Re: Oil Drain Plug 200 1983

My first and last time using Wal-Mart Quick Lube was about 10 years ago. I had my own oil and filter and took it by to get the oil changed. After waiting for 30 minutes, I went to check on my car. I was told they couldn't change the oil because they didn't have a wrench that would fit the drain plug. Then, I was told my oil filter wasn't the right size. I finally said O.K., that's all right. I drove across town to pick up a gift for one of our relatives at Toys R Knotheads. I thought I would check things under the hood before heading home. That was when I noticed the oil filler cap lying on the radiator/radiator support and oil all over the engine. I called Wal-Mart from the phone inside the toystore. A man came from Wal-Mart with oil and cleaning supplies and cleaned up the leakage. Luckily, the oil level was not quite 1 qt. low.
      Never Again!

      Andrew

LOL! I was such a newbie then! This was for my first 245, but I'm not sure if it was an 83 but for sure it was pre-86.

Your experience reminds me of when I first took the wagon to a Jiffy Lube place, which I would never do but since the Volvo was my beater at the time (and it was beat up) I didn't worry much about quality work. It's an oil change, what could they do wrong? Well, I got one of their $20 promotion thing that includes vacuuming and window washing. Well, as it turns out, the shop manager said they can't vacuum the interior because it's broken, and since it was an overcast day, they said it'll be a waste to wash my windows since it's gonna rain. I was too nice to protest and went with it. I can't believe I allowed them to pull that $h!t on me. They did try to sell me on engine flushes and wiper blades though. And I think they might have over tighten the drain plug too.

Yes, that's the oil pan. Overdrive is behind the tranny.
