"check engin light on and fault code " 700 90

Hi everyone, My 765 turbo has 98000 Miles, the check engin light is on and the car is still running ,start right up and seem nothing wrong. I tested the fault code found ,first socket6 got 1-1-1 Then socket 2 got 1-3-1 .In the 700 FAQ said RPM sensor and engin won't start .So, What I have to do next? Disconect the battery cable and let the computer reset? or get to the real pro to do the work. Thank you for advice.

Re: "check engin light on and fault code " 700 90

The 90 was notorious for intermittent and eventually failing rpm sensor. I think the bad ones had a yellowish band on them, the new ones are white.

I had the bad luck of simply having to have my car flatbedded to the shop to have it replaced, thank you and $125 later plus towing....thanks volvo dealers of america.

Eventually the car simply won't start rather than setting codes.

Replace the rpm sensor if it hasn't been replaced already...it's time. The part is about $40 list...you can probably get it less (but don't forget to add in shipping but then that's offset by no sales tax for out of state/mail order) from Borton Volvo or someplace else on the net.

It's very possible to have an intermittent fault that will set that code. Check the wire conector for the rpm sensor for corrosion and clean if necessary, then clear the code and drive it. If the code returns, replace the sensor. If it were me, I'd replace the sensor anyway.
