well my wifes 245 is at it again.

she said it was stalling at the intersection and only got home by praying

as if that was unusual

anyways i went to the safeway to check it out and see

or rather i attempted to go to the safeway.

so upon arrival at said destination this car is in forceable labor

very erattic vroom vroom from the bonnet

bit of backfire

lots of surging

finally serious resentment and the unit says its gonna stop

which it does

so now here i am at the safeway car not starting

and chinese food gettin cold.

starter cranks just fine

I can clearly hear the in line fuel pump wurrring away

its got lots of gas

checked my coil its attatched. as is the plug wires.

and the next check is ???

any ideas???

sounds like you have too much fuel... backfire and surging and all. fuel pressure would be a good thing to check, and control pressure regulator as well.

BUT FIRST!!!

i had a problem much like this a little while ago. the car started fine, but wouldn't idle below 2000 rpm. it had no power, and when you floored it, it would just sputter and surge. the exhaust smelled so rich you could light it. a can of chevron techron fuel treatment to clean the fuel system did the trick. i'm a cheap bastard, and run my 81 on regular, which aside from the octane difference has very little in terms of cleaners etc.. to keep your fuel system clean. usually i use a little techron every 6 months or so, but for the last 18 months i've been so poor i neglected it. i figure an injector, or the control plunger got stuck/clogged or somehow scuzzed up.

it could also be your cold start injector. make sure that is shutting off when you stop cranking. you can do that by disconnecting the ground at the thermal time switch.

OK So you have gas delivery? Sounded like a fuel death, disconnect fuel connection at cold start injector. Does it spew forth when cranking?

If so then you ain't got spark. Remove a plug wire stick a plug in it and clamp it to a ground. Crank car, got spark?

I mean I also am assuming by the actions prior to death that your timimg belt didn't break.

His fuel pump is running though. Maybe he should check his fuel pressure regulator.
