Power Antenna Motor 700 1988

After installing a new antenna mast on my 700 sedan, I noticed that when I turn the radio on the antenna retracts, and when I turn the radio off the antenna extends. I checked all the wiring around the antenna housing, everything seems normal. Could it be the antenna control switch on the dash? It's broken, but I connected a piece of wire to the plug in place of the switch until I get a new one. Any thoughts?
