No reverse! 700 1997

Oh no! Ruptured a tranmission hose on the transmission crossmember and lost fluid on the highway. Had the car picked up and the hoses replaced. The mechanic put fluid in and now there is no reverse. The mechanic said that the reverse clutch was probably burnedup. (I don't know why, as I lost all my fluid while going forward....) When I put it in reverse it tries to go and then splips. Any ideas what might be in line for this transmission?

    What transmission is in your car?

    If it is an AW70/AW70L, buy one used. THey're cheap and plentiful. Don't even bother paying for a rebuild. You can buy several used transmissions for the price of a rebuilt one.

    A ZF is a harder find, but they do exist.

      If it is the ZF, shouldn't he maybe consider replacing it with the AW?

    You can tell the level of frustration........it is an '87 740GLE. It is also a part of the family...I'm sure most of you know what I mean. All of the other information is accurate. No reverse.
