1982 245 GL Turbo questions 200 1982

I just bought a 1982 245 GL Turbo at an auction for

$1000. It has 406000 km � mi] on it. It was

really looked after. It has no rust. It has the wiring

problem of the insulation turning to powder and I replaced

the fuel pump relay once. I really enjoy this car! It was

built in Canada.

It is a 4 speed and overdrive. It has cruise, PW, air,

power locks, 5 spoke GLT wheels, Lamda Sond. It is burgundy

with a tan interior. The cruise just quit working.

I have a car that doesn't exist. The fender tag says the

motor is part of the B23E family but it shows in the

manual only the B21FT being the Turbo.

The questions are:

Is the engine really a 2.3L? Was it turbo from the

factory? Anyone have HP rating for this motor?

Should there be a "turbo" or "intercooled" badge on the

tailgate?

Is this a GL with a turbo option or is it a GLT? It

doesn't have any red trim inside.

Any idea why the cruise would just quit?

    You can find out what engine was originally in the car based on the VIN number, since it sounds like it may have had a turbo motor dropped in to replace the B23E.

    Does the engine look like this?:


    An '82 turbo would not have had an intercooler from the factory. The HP is around 130, but the torque is around 150 lb/ft.

    I have a 1983 242 GL Turbo. The motor that you have is most likely the B21 only somebody was trying to make the car more than it was by switching the labels, and yes there could ahve been badges at one time but they are easily removed. about the overdirve most likely the realy, it's behind the glovebox check it out
