rear-end ratios 200 1983

if i wanted to get a different rear end for my 245 after swapping transmissions from auto to manual, how do i know which is which?

is there any external indication of the gear ratio?

trying to learn as much as i can before i get in over my head.

thanks for your help.

    David,

    When viewed from behind, there is a small white label on the left side of the axle, close to the rear end housing. You will have to carefully clean the grease off, but it should clearly indicate the ratio.

    I think rear end ratios are stamped on the id plate on the axle that also lists the axle serial number.
