I have been investigating the eprom upgrade (service bulletin 28-102) that is supposed to correct the cold start/cold idle issues inherent in some of the LH 2.4 cars (95 945T). I was able to sweet talk a local Volvo dealer's parts lady into FAXing me both the table showing which eprom kit goes with which existing ECU (parts bulletin 28-24), as well as the 5 or 6 pages describing the procedure.

My problem is this: the table with ECU numbers doesn't list my ECU (6842448-4) under the "B230FT w/EGR" heading. The closest thing I can find in the table is (6842115-5) for a "B230F w/o EGR". There is also a notation saying if my ECU number is not listed, I need to go to Parts Bulletin Group EXC 28, #2.

I feel like I have worn out my welcome with the parts department, and if anyone (Abe?) has any info on which eprom kit I need (271843-5, or 271844-3) to install, I would be very grateful.

Anyone who wants this eprom upgrade info can send me a self addressed stamped envelope, and I'll send you a copy. My original is a FAX, so a digital scan probably wouldn't be too readable.

The TSB says this is only for models to 1993, and all 1994 on ECUs were improved.

That would be why your ECU is not listed.

If you have the price for the part I would like to know as I need it for my 1992 940T

I need this information for my '93 945T as well. When you get would really appreciate a copy of whatever it is so I can either attempt myself or hand it to my mechanic.

After some more searching, I have found that there is indeed a eprom upgrade for the later LH 2.4 cars (94-95), but I don't have the exact part number for the eprom kit in front of me. This was in part based on a TSB supplement (part bulletin 28-24, I believe).

The price ranges from $70 to $90. Kit is the actual eprom plus some decals. If you need any more info, email me. I have a chart as well as step-by-step procedure.
