need advice on where to get the best deal on a fuel pump? 200 82

my 82 240 with k-jet has a hard time starting warm, the intank pump works and has a new hose and filter. so i guess it is either the accumulator or pump. i see that rayce.com has remanufactured pumps for around 140 and ipd is around 198. any advice would be great. thanks will

I would replaced the fuel pump check valve. It is external on the pump and you can get it from volvo for about 15 dollars. It holds the fuel to the acumulator. It takes time for it to leak down and the the pump has to refill the lines to pressure. Thats why it stumbles till if catches up to the demand of the injectors. The next thing could be the regulator seeping. An injector could be weeping but that is rare if the engine runs fine otherwise.

Its a cheap try and you will always have it when it does go south!

Will -- I've heard stories of generic pumps sold through chain auto parts stores not working on K-jets. The LH jet pump is a lower pressure pump and won't work on the K-jet. Make sure that you get the correct one if you go the generic route.

      Hello Will

Try putting the gas pedal to the floor the next time you are in a warm start situation. I have a 1982 244 GLT and that is what I do whenever the car is hot and it won't start. In every case the car starts right up.

Let me know if it works.

      William also.

I'm thinking it's not the fuel pump either.

If you can get a 'buudy' at a service station to get you Original pump it will run you $145. I tried the Carquest deal, I had to fool around with replacing connectors, the pump was thinner so I had to wrap it with additional rubber and after all that the damn thing sqealed like Hell. I spent the ectra 40 bucks and got the original Volvo.

    Will

My 82 242 Turbo is having the same warm starting problem.

The hard start seems like it is not getting fuel, it will take up to 10 tries to get it to start. I vary the time cranking, throttle position and all. nothing seems to help for a bit.

does yours start fine when the engine is cold and HOT?

By hot I mean within like 1.5 hours of shutting it off.

Mine has the hardest time when the engine has cooled for 2-4 hours.

Does yours run just fine otherwise and not seen mileage decrease?

    mine does.

if so I would gather that the main pump is just fine. I would also assume that our rest fuel pressures are just fine, this is due to the rest fuel pressure happens 30 minutes after shut off according to the Bentley.

I have started to clean things. I have checked all the ignition related components on my car for resistance and everything seems to be in spec.

Replaced the ignition computer too, but I like you seem to think it is a fuel problem.

My suspicisions say the control pressure regulator is going out. This is due to when the regulator is supposed to help ( I think). Since the control pressure regulator is for warm up.

Have you checked the cold start injector? Friend john Laughling pointed me to that as a source of the problem but I have yet to have time to test it

    :(

    hope this helps

    good luck with it

    take care

    Hey Will,

Unless you're really in the middle of absolutely nowhere, there must be an Auto Parts store near you. They're everywhere! You'll find an 'underbody' fuel pump under a hundred for sure. Try car Quest or Advanced Auto Parts. Don't forget the fuel filter. But I don't think a warm 'hard start' would be fuel pump related. But hey...ya never know.
