Re: Att: Paul S. and others: Oil filter location 700 88

Here I am sorry - todamnbusy for BB yesterday!

On the 240 I relocate the oil filter(s) to a nice little cubby hole under the front right corner sheet metal, up in front of the wheel well, behind the bumper, air damn and sheet metal. On the left side this is where the fuel evap canister is. If get down on your knees just next to and ahead of the front right wheel and look up in this space you'll see what I'm talking about. Very protected yet easy access.

90° bracket holds the oil filter holder. Just squat down and screw.

I'm not sure if the 700/900's have this space. The 800's don't and I still haven't figured out a place on that car.

I think I'll put it right on the frame rail. My 740 has the battery right where you say your is-but that's going to the back soon! Now, does it matter whether the filter is up or down?

So the battery is in the front right corner?

For ease of install (with a pre oil filled filter and a loaded old filter) I like to keep the mating surface facing up.

I'll check my car tonight. What parts would you need and how long are the hoses?

My 960 has the filter in front of the crossmember. Easy to change, easy to get wacked by large highway debris, like truck tire treads or mufflers or even ladders.

My '86 has it mounted slightly in front of the crossmember, or over it. It's not under the turbo. I would like to relocate it to the frame rail close to the radiator. Amsoil has a relocation kit and I'm trying to get a local Amsoil contact do do her car, a 740, first to see what's needed. In it's current location I have to contort myself to remove it or take off a few air hoses to remove it from above. That's a good time to check to turbo though so it's an unintended consequence.

Why are you relocating your oil filter?

Why not? Once the turbo and hoses are in there, I figured it would be more accessible elsewhere.

Are you familiar with the oil filter on 87 and later 740 and 760 turbos?

Is that the thing that puts the filter under the turbo? I've seen it in other cars but I would like to access the filter from the top. (Yes, I know I still have to undo the drain underneath the car.)
