Blinker & Tachometer Problems 200 1985

G'day,

I have a prob on my 85 240GL wagon. When i start the engine the blinker lights remain on. When the blinker is operated that blinker flashes on and off while the other one remains lit. Also my tachometer apears not to be under reading significantly and when the blinkers are operated, the tacho indicates more and less rpm as the blinkers flash on and off.

The blinker and tacho run through the same fuse and i have cleaned and replaced the fuse with no results. Any ideas?? Thanks.

    Re: Blinker & Tachometer Problems 200 1985

Larry, I recently had the same problem on one of our 740s. Remove the instrument cluster (two screws). Remove and clean all connections. I use a "pink pearl" eraser (as on a pencil)and carefully used it on all the ribbon trace connection points and pay special attention to the grounds. The one under the white plastic cap (below the tach)was the main culprit for me. Hope this helps! As a computer technician (for 15 years) I used pink pearl erasers for cleaning edge connectors on adaper boards. It's just abrasive enough to remove oxidation without removing plating.

Check the grounds. Replace the flasher.
