Jammed Rear Sear - Sta. Wag 700 1986

My left rear seat jammed with the center latch closed and the outside latch open. I was able to get it folded down by folding down the center armrest, removing the plastic shield, and reaching inside the seat and grabbing the release rod with vice grips & lifting up.

Upon inspection, the plastic release lever had a peg broken off. When I removed the plastic plate & lever, I found that I could operate the outer latch by hand, but the rod to the center latch didn't seem to be moving. Has anyone had any experience with working on this mechanism? How do you access the rods inside the seat to see what the problem is?

They are a bit of a bugger if the seat can't be folded down, but if you can get it to move its not as bad. Remove the hard trim off the outside edge of the seatback, and you should see some hogrings on the bottom edge. Clip them and the uopholstry should come off the top of the seat. From there it is just a matter of figuring out which fragile and expensive plastic tab broke off and replacing it.
