Strut anchor bolts what size? 200 87

I'm preparing to change my ball joints and i'm following Bentley's. They tell you not to reuse the four bolts that hold the strut anchor to the strut tube page 610-6. Question what size of bolt is this? Are they the same size as the three bolts that hold the ball joint assembly to the control arm? What grade of bolt should I use? Thanks.

    I believe they are 8mm, and they are big time different from the large stubby bolts/ deformed locking nuts on the control arm. But my advice is to buy the kit (from Volvo) and you get the bolts with a reddish patch of thread lock compound. Or buy the bolts from Volvo...they are stronger than the normal 8.8's you'll normally encounter. (OTOH many have re-used these at their own risk)

      I just got off the phone with my local Volvo parts dept. They told me that they do not sell just the bolt. Only if I where to buy the ball joint kit could I get them. I already purchased the ball joints from aftermarket source. The parts person at Volvo told me to use a little lock tight what do you think?

        I think that Volvo used to carry that bolt, so maybe if you check around you can find them. If the bolts "look" ok, it still does not mean they are OK, because the could be stretched, microcracks, etc.

        I will admit that I have reused (cleaned and loctited) them before - until I got new bolts in a few days.

        I have to disagree with your dealer. Volvo will sell just the hardware.

        You just called an example of a lazy person at a dealership that really

        doesn't want to help you. The dealer around me did the same thing when

        I wanted to buy Volvo tools. I'm not so sure I'd give them any business.

        Anyway, I have never had a problem with reusing the old bolts as long as

        they are in good condition. You must be very careful not to overtighten

        them when you reinstall them. They are not very big and I think the torque

        is only around 10-15 ft. lbs. which isn't very much.
