Brake Hose Disconnect/Reconnect 700 86

Does anybody know any tips for disconnecting and reconnecting both redundant brake hoses on the front brakes of a non-ABS 740? The hoses don't appear to be able to pivot, and when I turn one, it curls up like a telephone cord. I'm thinking this can't be good for the hose.

Doing the second one would be easy; I can just turn the caliper in my hand, but while both are attached, that isn't an option.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Brake Hose Disconnect/Reconnect 700 86

The "right" way on any car is to disconnect the steel tube at the body and remove any mounting retainers (integral with the tube nut on the Volvo).

Put one wrench on the hex part of the hose fitting and be sure to use the PROPER fitting wrench (buy a brand new one if need be) on the tube nut as Volvo used soft brass and they're easy to round off.

Re: Brake Hose Disconnect/Reconnect 700 86

go back up the flexible hose to where it attaches to a solid line.

Chances are there's a male fitting that screws into the female end of the rubber hose. You unscrew the male fitting and release the rubber hose from the bracket (generally just pull a U-shaped sheet metal tab.

Then you can unscrew the hose(s) from the caliper.
