Rear defrost comes on with rear wipers?! 200

My rear window defroster keeps coming on when I use the rear wipers. Any thoughts on what it may be?

    The rear defrost wiring is on the left side, the rear wiper wiring is on the right. Doubtfull that shorting in the hinge could cause this problem. However, the wiper and defroster share a ground point. If the ground at the tailgate is poor, the wiper could be seeking ground through the defroster, backfeeding to the switch/relay.

    Sounds like the wiring that runs through your tailgate hinges is faulty. Probably has cracked insulation and is shorting or bleeding current from one wire to another. There are lots of documented procedures to fix this - check the archives.
