Drive Shaft Help PLEASE!! 200 85

Just took off this morning going to the store, and I heard some wining like the spacers in my front wheels used to do. Then I smelled burning rubber, and thunk thunk thunk... Now what is broke is the thing just after the tranny, it is about 10 to 12 inches behing the tranny, it hold the driveshaft just before it goes to the main shaft that goes to the diff. There is what looks like a bearing, with rubber around it, but the rubber is now pretty much gone. Anybody else have this problem?? What is that part called?? How much is it??

Re: Drive Shaft Help PLEASE!! 200 85

The center bearing support donut is not expensive or hard to change. Just make sure you mark the halves of the driveshaft and understand the yoke alignment of the U-joints on opposite sides of the splined joint before you take them apart. If the bearing itself is still smooth and the u-joints move freely, testing them in all directions with some force, then the donut replacement alone is no big deal. If the bearing needs replacement refer to a Bentley or green manual. Brass punch etc. U-joints are kind of tricky too and best taken to a machine shop I think. I broke one learning how to install them.
