stuck glove compartment door 700 91

For several years I have used two of the hanging-type cup holders hooked over my glovebox door with no problems. But several weeks ago my son was playing with them sliding them across and somehow jammed the lock mechanism so the door will not open now. Twisting the knob seems to be moving the lock, but nothing happens and the door is still stuck. Any suggestions?

Re: stuck glove compartment door 700 91

My son just experienced the same problem on his 87 744T. He was able to push the top of the door down for enough to get the latch to clear the catch, and open. Nothing was damaged. The problem was the tang on the back of the lock cylinder that operates the latch had broken. We got a used unit from a junkyard and moved the plates (tumblers?) to the replacement lock so the key would work. Force was required. Be careful, and good luck.
