BBers Right Again - Oil filler cap gasket fixes leak,

I posted several days ago about oil leaking from oil filler cap on top of valve cover. My fears were that excessive crankcase pressure was causing problem even though I had cleaned flame trap, etc. Thanks to several respondants, I changed gasket on filler cap and it seems to work well. Although the old gasket looked pretty good, when you take it out and hold it next to new gasket its evident age and heat have done some damage. Thanks to all.

I backed my gasket up with an additional homemade cardboard gasket. that worked for awhile. But I think it's time to just replace mine. I guess it's a dealer item. what? Probably $40 dollars for a piece of rubber? Dealers, OYE!

That rubber gasket was less than $2.00 USD last time I bought one.

Yes, much less, cuz I bought 10. $0.80 sticks in my memory.

I'm an old dog, but I was glad to learn that new trick too. The gaskets really look pretty good until you compare them side by side, especially feel.
