B234F unusual engine tick 700 90

I have a 90 740gle volvo with a 16v engine, when the engine is around 1800 rpm in high gear(auto trans)there is a slight tick coming from the L/S of the engine compartment,it goes away when I release the throttle and doesn,t seem to be present in warmer weather,it doesn't sound like a valve tick, possibly an injector tick or flame trap tick?Any imput appreciated.

Those really are the classic symptoms for sticky hydraulic lifter valve ticking on that engine. Just let the engine warm up a bit longer on cold days before driving and avoid lead footed driving until the ticking settles down. More frequent oil changes with top quality oil and filter will help. Use the lightest oil recommended for your climate. Consider going with a synthetic oil or at least a synthetic blend. Adding a flushing agent to hot oil and running it in for a few minutes before draining may also help, but this will leave the new oil slightly contaminated.
