differential compatibility between 140 / 240 / 740 140-160 1970

It is my understanding that the 140 / 240 and 740 all use dana 30

differentals.

Is it possible to take one of these out of a salvage 240 / 740 and

put into a 140 / 160? I'd like to take an LSD out of one I find in

a salvage yard and put it into either my 144 or 164. (By possible,

I don't mean "anything's possible with enough money" I mean "Yes,

it goes right in and isn't more than an afternoon's work; here's how"

kind of possible).

Lastly, were LSDs standard in any of the normal volvos?

thanks,

chris

The 30 differentials are interchangeable. Actually, I havent been able to tell the difference between the 30 and 31 LSDs either.

Your idea would be possible, yes. But the swap itself isnīt a straightforward DIY job since the bearings have to be realigned. Requires some special tools and know-how.

LSD unfortunately wasnīt standard on any 100/200 model. For a start, look at Turbos, GLT and V6 aspirated cars.

Just as added info, my '82 GLE V-6 definitely does not have an LSD. Don't ask how I know...
