240 Caliper Identification -- (Dumb Question) 200 86

Stupid question, probably already been answered, but I can't seem to find it despite my numerous archive searches. The 700/900 FAQ doesn't seem to apply, either.

Is there an easy way to ID the brake calipers on my 240 without either taking the wheel off or pulling the calipers apart? I have to do the fronts soon. TIA>

Have not seen a USA 240 since 1980 that wasn't girling front, ATE rear.

You can do it thru the ID plate in the engine compartment.

How do you interpret it? Does not seem to be laid out same way as described in 700/900 FAQ.

Re: 240 Caliper Identification -- (Dumb Question) 200 86

I went to my local dealer and got a parts book that lists all the parts for the Volvo's. It is in paper back form. They gave it to me. In there it tells you how to decifer the numbers and what they mean. It also lists all the parts, part numbers that were available for each car and year. I would stop by and ask them if they have any extras. If they are unwilling to give you a copy just email and I will scan in the page for you and send it. Just email me.

Last time I called the parts store they asked. Year and model. Vented or solid. ABS? All they needed to know.

Re: 240 Caliper Identification -- (Dumb Question) 200 86

Front calipers on 240s have all been Girling since about 1976. The rears are mostly Ate, which do not have hairpins through the pad retaining pins.
