Fuel pump whining 140-160 1982

Hello

Recently I have noticed that I can hear my fuel pump whining when the car is idling. This is new, it hadn't made a sound before. While the car was running I pulled the fuel pump fuse. The sound went away immediatly. Of course the car stalled but I just wanted to indicate that the sound is from the fuel pump. Another indicator is that the sound seems to be coming from under the drivers seat. Does the sound mean that I will soon have a problem.

P.S. The car still works fine.

William

I had that problem with my '81 260GLE - The sound was coming out underneath the car on the driver's side and just in front of the rear wheel. I tracked it down to the Pressure Regulator (My Brick is Fuel Injected). Because I was afraid that the Pump was going and more importantly, because I was there, I changed out both the pump and the regulator with a slightly used one from a local Volvo Recycler (They even mounted it on the bracket so that I would not break any terminals since that is one of the dogs about the thing.

    There weren't any 140s or 164s made in 1982.

They have the fuel pump beside the tank (FI)

or on the left side of the block (carbs).
