about body structure 200 1986

please inform me of is difference in body structure between volvo 244 model year 1979 and volvo 240 model year 1986 , thank you

    Essentially, none. I suspect you are referring to crashworthiness, as your earlier posts seem to suggest this.

    Major difference in crashworthiness is the bumpers. In the US, at least, 1983 saw the advent of weaker bumpers.

      Evan,

      I just replaced the front bumper on my 83. It was so light I could carry it and my toolbox in the same arm through the junkyard. I think the aluminum is barely 3/16 thick, definitely not a quarter. A week later I had occasion to chase the threads for the license plate bolts on the front of my 79. The bumper seemed much thicker.

      Maybe you know from the top of your head, should I expect to have that perforated piece of sheet metal hiding the rear muffler on my 79? Just noticed yesterday the muffler looked kind of naked on that car.

        Should you expect it? Well, it was stock. They rust and get damaged easily, though. Also, they are often removed with hitch installation.
